Empower • Faith • Sacraments • Community
Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament which gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporate us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds. (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1316)
Why do we need the Sacrament of Confirmation? Without it, it would be easy for us to lose our faith because we are not doing enough to nurture it for the sake of our souls. Without faith as our guide and strength, it will be easy for us to lose our way in life. Can we imagine our lives without a blueprint? Can we really run our lives on our own? If so, then where do we get the strength to live in our lives where unexpected challenges can arise? We would be fooling ourselves if we think these challenges would never happen or we can face them alone. That is why we need the grace of Confirmation to come to our aid, only if we are willing to let it, and help us to persevere in our life journey with our sense of values so that our faith can triumph!
The Boston Deaf Apostolate now offers a two-year Confirmation program for students who are at least 7th grade or at least 12 years old. Students will be given an exciting opportunity to learn more about how to be a strong witness in their Catholic faith as they prepare to go out in "the real world", especially college and future career and participate in community service. They will also discover more about the lives of Saints and how their faith helped them to persevere in their lives, and who they can imitate their lives with. In addition they will hear guest speakers who are present witnesses to their Catholic faith and how they have maintained and nurtured their faith. Moreover, there will be video lesson plans, from NCOD (National Catholic Office for the Deaf) to help students prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Students will then be able to integrate their knowledge of the faith while living the faith in "the real world".
We also offer Confirmation classes for adults who have not yet received the Sacrament.
